Yesterday was my first day working at Niddrie Primary School assisting in the Art room, i had two blocks working with different classes of grade one and two's. I had a great first day and all the kids where excited to have a 'big kid' helping them when needed, especially some of the boys.
The kids where creating dragons, which we described as 'Chinese' dragons to go along with the Olympics. To create the dragons the kids had to pair up and grab to sheets of colored paper each. One of the sheets contained the outline of a dragons head, one leg, frill, tail and the tails bush. One the other sheet of paper the kids needed to fold the paper in half and then in half again. Now the needed to trace their hand twice and cut them out, giving them four cut out hands.
Now on the other sheet they would first cut out the leg and then use it as a stencil to create another leg before proceeding to cut out the other features. Once all features where cut out they then needed to swap to hands, the frill (tuff) and the tails bush with their partner. Then they where reading to get a piece of black backing paper to set their dragon out on.
During this time i was walking around helping different kids, re-explaining what needed to be completed as well as answering a variety of questions. Then the kids needed to set out how they wanted the dragon to look on the paper (without glue), then once they had their worked checked by Tracey or myself they where allowed to glue the work down, then finally once the dragon was pasted together they got to choose some boggle eyes to complete their dragon.

Sounds like a good experience so far... exhausting no doubt!
